Look up!

Film of projected animated works created in code by Dave Webb

Two individuals sitting on the floor, intently watching a digital art piece involving a glowing circle displayed on a monitor in a cozy room.

Look up! was originally a site specific installation for Cell 9, C wing at Shepton Mallet Prison as part of the ‘Outside In’ group show in Somerset Arts Week 2022. From within the prison cell, Dave considered a world beyond the walls. These glimpses of memories, hopes and dreams penetrated the building’s physical form, bringing back glimmers of brightness and possibility.

During the Feeling Machines Weekender, Dave presented this work as a film at St Anne’s House. The film was an extract from a series of projected animated works created in code, an audio collage of found sounds, and custom electronics that invites audiences to momentarily peek through the cracks, and dare to hope.
